this is the first time im going to make a review about a laptop so bear with me. i plan to update this review as often and very detailed. my rating will start on 5 stars and it gets lower if im not satisfied or stay 5 stars if im happy with my purchase.
ok lets start.
when i received the laptop it is very good , nice design , computer is really fast.
screen is fine ( big screen which is awesome).
keyboard is good like other laptops keyboard nothing special, it has a dedicated number which is really good.
speaker is weak. i can live with that.
touch pad is really bad i mean its very sensitive at times but in time maybe i can figure out the right way to use it, i bought a mouse so its not really a problem.
battery can last 4 hours.
so far so good im satisfied and still put this laptop 5 stars. im downloading a game right now (league of legends) to test its gaming power. ok see you in next update

This laptop isn't perfect, but it is an excellent value for the money and sufficient for the needs of what most people use their laptop for.
PROS
- Bright Screen
- Good battery life
- Full size keyboard (with numberpad) is nice
- Doesn't heat up much (my last one really did so I noticed immediately)
CONS
- Weak speakers. Really, really bad. Like it won't even project enough sound to hear everything going on in a video when you're sitting just a few feet away (and I have good hearing still...I hope).
- Touchpad is not very good. Actually perhaps it's the button you click with...it's just very stiff and I find the placement of the touchpad to be a bit odd. If you get a mouse then this won't be as much of an issue for you.
Let's be honest, for a laptop in this price range you aren't going to get a machine that's going to run the newest games with all of the settings/graphics on. But then again no laptop will do that unless you shell out $2,000. However, if you're a student or a normal user (email, Internet, documents, light gaming, watching videos, etc.) then this machine will be great for you and you won't overpay. Let's just say that instead of spending $1000 on a machine that isn't much better, I'll just buy another ~$400 laptop in two years and get more value at that point. With the way technology advances and becomes obsolete I find this buying strategy better than the alternative.
Unless you're want to go the Mac route or have a specific need for something better (probably only for gamers or video/sound editing) then you will 100% be fine with this machine and you'll get it for a great value. There are a few quirks like the weak speakers and the touchpad, but I can live with that to save a few hundred bucks.

Just got it this week and I'm just LOVING IT!!! I also purchased 2 of the Corsair 4 GB DDR3 Laptop Memory from Amazon maxing out the memory to 8 GIGS when I installed it and the performance is just SPECTACULAR. It was a hard choice as I was debating getting this, a Lenovo laptop and a HP laptop. After two months of decision making I FINALLY chose the Gateway NV55S04U and I don't regret it despite only owning it for two days so far.
This replaces a Gateway NV52 I sold earlier this year and exceeds it in performance and even sleekness by leaps and bounds. My only beef is that I would have preferred 4 USB ports over the 3 it comes with. But that's a non-issue.
I wanted a laptop I didn't have to be concerned about upgrading or moving slowly on me AT ANY POINT. The AMD Radeon HD Graphics aren't bad either since I don't care for Intel's integrated graphics by any means.
Good going Acer/Gateway. Thumbs up on this one. Keep up the good work.
